Digital artwork

To ensure continuity and standardisation, all digital files produced by Charterhouse are profiled to the international standard ISO Coated v2, the ICC profile used in ISO 12647.

To help clients and their agencies we have produced an industry-recognised publication on colour management. This provides a comprehensive guide to viewing and handling digital files and also allows print partners to fully comply with our colour management policy as well as the demands of ISO 12647. This booklet is combined with Charterhouse profiles and applications to allow suppliers to view digital files, use the correct colour management procedures for importing, converting and exporting digital files in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and QuarkXPress as well as producing formatted PDF files and digital proofs.


Digital proofing

All digital proofing meets that ISO 12647-7 standard and all studios are equipped with an Epson digital proofing solution located in an air conditioned and controlled environment. Each digital proof contains a Fogra Media Wedge V3. Each studio is also equipped with a VeriVide Fenestra viewing booth (which complies to ISO 3664) for consistency and colour accuracy.


Four colour process printing

All our suppliers undergo an initial ISO print test as well as completing a detailed questionnaire on colour management procedures. To comply with the ISO standard the printed test sheet must be within tolerance of the TVI curve, CMYK primaries, overprint values, ink trapping and grey balance standards.


Spot colour printing

Working in partnership with the Huber Group, Charterhouse has developed a unique colour matching service that ensures a brand colour can effectively be repeated across a range of substrates and finishes. Once defined, the brand colour data is maintained as a CIE L*a*b* value. Improving the unique nature of this solution, spectral data is measured and controlled by a Konica Minolta FD-& spectrophotometer, Heidelberg Image Control, InPress Control or Manroland PressPilot. The spectral data can be downloaded from our secure portal as part of our closed-loop colour control system.

Charterhouse has held both FSC & PEFC accreditations since 2006. The ‘Chain of Custodies’ provides a robust audited certification to ensure all purchases or wood and paper are environmentally sound, socially beneficial and economically prosperous in the management of the world’s forests.

Our CarbonNeutral Print Production programme is a unique program that allows us to measure the CO2 impact of our clients’ print, reduce it, and then offer them the chance to offset their emissions through investing in green energy projects, managed by The CarbonNeutral Company. In 2006 we became the first print management company to hold a ‘Carbon Neutral’ status and still adhere to this ethos via offsetting carbon and regular external audits.
